Two leading animal welfare-focused organizations, Shelter Exchange and Petfinder, announced today that they are partnering to collaborate efforts and streamline information and communication to benefit even more homeless animals.
Shelter Exchange is a non-profit organization that provides a free online software application to animal shelters and rescue groups across the USA. Information for homeless animals can be managed, stored and shared from Shelter Exchange by the shelters and rescue groups using the application. By partnering with Petfinder, the largest online, searchable database of pets in need of permanent homes, information about adoptable animals can now be automatically shared from Shelter Exchange to Petfinder.com and its mobile platforms.
“The most tangible benefit for shelters and rescue groups is that they can now enter the information for each adoptive animal once, and it can then be shared on multiple adoption websites, which is a huge time saver. Surprisingly, the animal welfare industry is extremely fragmented, with lots of organizations working independently, and in some cases duplicating efforts,” explained Claire Bokor, founder of Shelter Exchange. “By partnering with Petfinder, we are ensuring that we provide the best possible solution, offer maximum exposure for homeless animals, and enable a fast, easy way for the public to find a new pet ensuring more animals are saved.”
About Shelter Exchange
Shelter Exchange was founded in October 2010 as a 501c3 non-profit organization to effect positive and lasting change to the challenging issue of animal euthanasia in shelters across the country. The Shelter Exchange software application enables a more complete approach, offering shelters and rescue organization a no-cost centralized resource aimed at reducing the volume of animal euthanasia and creating the best possible opportunities for rescue and adoption through networking and community outreach.
Petfinder.com is the largest online, searchable database of animals that need permanent homes. With more than 320,000 adoptable pets from more than 13,700 animal shelters and rescue groups throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico, Petfinder.com has facilitated more than 20 million adoptions since it was launched in 1996. In addition to being an adoption database, Petfinder.com also is an all-inclusive resource guide for how to select the right family pet and build a successful, life-long relationship. Thanks to its sponsors, Petfinder.com is free to both visitors and to its animal placement organization members. Sponsors include BISSELL Homecare, Inc., a manufacturer of home cleaning and floor care products, The Animal Rescue Site, PetFirst Healthcare, the exclusive pet insurance provider for Petfinder.com, and HomeAgain, a microchip and pet recovery service.
